What happened to Mike Wheeler?
He used to be so happy, so expressive. He used to be able to show so much, to feel so much it was overwhelming. Now, it was like he was a piece of cardboard. Unmoving, unchanging.
Of course that was not true. But then, why couldn't he show his feelings anymore?
Or: Mike Wheeler doesn't really know how to allow himself to feel. He reaches a conclusion.

And he also now had emotions flowing through him, his anger taking over to create a new purpose: vengeance. A vengeance that wasn't on a person whom he couldn't even see his face, but someone whom he could see his sleeping, shaking form from where he was if he just craned his neck enough."

“Better?” Kaoru throws his head back to look up at Kojiro. He has a slightly amused look on his eyes, one that has Kaoru huffing, but there’s also warmth and care, the kind of look Kojiro always has while looking at the kids while they aren’t looking, as well as Kaoru when he thinks he isn’t looking. But Kaoru also discerns something else on his face. Maybe it’s in the way his lips are slightly parted, or how he isn’t looking right into his eyes, but it has Kaoru shifting in his seat.
Or: Kaoru has back pains from his posture. Kojiro helps.
