Etho was not a good person. Even before the world ended. He survived by choosing himself, and he did it well.
And then there was Joel.
Joel, who joked when he was afraid. Joel, who kept everyone else fed and chased hope farther than it was safe to follow. Joel, who had already crossed into something dangerous without meaning to, without ever stopping to look at the shape of what he was becoming. Joel didn’t have anyone who could make the bad choice for him.
Etho had never been built for clean hands. But his hands were steady.
And that, in the end, was what Joel needed.
Or: A Boat Boys zombie apocalypse romance AU. A loose sequel to There Are Monsters Nearby by uhohbestie, but readable as a standalone. The sequel where all the hermits get the happy ending they deserve.

Summary
Wels was taken by humans a number of years ago now. He had spent those years between various owners, acting as a guard dog either for impressive homes or for high profile humans who felt like they needed a security detail.
He is then bought by a man to protect him and his most prized possession, which happens to be a cursed dog hybrid who has apparently been taken from him before.~Another installment of the Like a Deer in the Headlights universe :D

Summary
If the band were to be entirely forgotten, their music wiped from history, their names faded into obscurity, Ivan would make it through to the other side of it. Academically, he’d exceeded expectations. He had the right connections in the most dull of occupations. Fulfillment did not always pay the bills. He could withstand whatever soul-crushing future awaited him, a passionless existence, so long as he had something to keep him above water. Till had proven time and time again with every bandage and rejection letter and song that he wrote that he would not, could not, do the same.
How hard could it be, asking the crowd to ensure that Till would never have to?

Till wants to be a star, and Ivan wants something he can’t have. The pair’s musical act, Unknown Sorrow, catching the eye of bigger industry names, may be the solution to both. That is, so long as anything built on sudden fame and spontaneous decisions can last.
Ivan’s heart warns him that it won’t.

Summary
Joel works in a secondhand record store and would rather be anywhere else. When it turns out his overly-talkative regular customer is friends with the hosts of his favourite radio show, though, his whole life flips on its head.
Joel didn’t mean to ruin his sleep schedule for some graveyard shift talk show. Etho didn’t mean to crush on the guy selling him dusty records. And Tango just wants to pull off his plans for a combination season-finale-slash-birthday-party without everything explodificating on him. But somehow, between old music discs, a chaotic group chat full of dinguses, and an unfolding ARG, their fates have interwoven in ways none of them would expect.
