Eight years after the Sky People were defeated at the battle of the Floating Mountains, Tonowari encounters a strange Sky Person child, Spider, under the care of the Omaticaya clan.
The more he learns about this child, the more horrified he becomes.
Tonowari was never one to allow any child to grow without a loving family. Spider is no exception, even if Tonowari must adopt him himself.

Summary
The war is over, and the Sully’s and Spider continue to live with the Metkayina. Spider, even now with his new ‘Eywa appointed blessings’ doesn’t fit in. He tries to stay out of the Metkayina people’s way. It had taken Neytiri years to warm up to him, and while she’d finally accepted and seen him, it had taken her his whole life. There was next to no hope of the Metkayina accepting him. But the Sully’s start acting strange, and so do the Metkayina people. They’re all watching out for him, helping him… looking after him.

When Nancy shoots the sphere (aka the exotic matter) in S5EP05, Steve is on the roof as well and gets sucked into the matter. He gets thrown out in the year 1978, nine years before S5, some floors below in the Hawkins Lab.
or: Steve accidentally time-travels into the past, to the time of the children-experiments and one year before the massacre. While he is held hostage in the Lab, he needs to protect baby Eleven and all the other kids (if they like it or not), try to not tell Brenner and his soldiers too much about the future and also work with the blooming obsession of noone else than Vecna/Henry Creel himself. Easy, right?
