Dana Scully, a young and exceptionally talented trauma physician, recently joins the same hospital. Having graduated at the top of her class and completed a year of practice at Stanford Hospital, she relocates to Washington, D.C., seeking to be closer to her family and for more personal reasons.

Apparently, the only way to stop the curse is to pass it to someone else by sleeping with them, and much to Mulder's chagrin, that isn't something Scully wants to do.
