Summary
This is intended to be both a media analysis as well as a political analysis through the lens of fandom reception, whereupon I utilize real-world sociopolitics, developer communication, and fandom reception to attempt to synthesize how and why Dragon Age: The Veilguard fails to cohere to the themes and narrative conceits of previous installments. I will post and reference other fandom meta analyses on story, plot, character, thema. This analysis will be primarily Doylist in nature, with Watsonian perspectives when appropriate. In the end, this is a fannish commentary on the development of the game Dragon Age: The Veilguard, on what kind of story it is telling, and on the protective response of its most receptive fans. The language will be semi-academic, but it is still largely an informal essay.

Summary
Ellanna died with the world burning. She remembers that. She remembers the sky torn open, the ground split with the raw hunger of the Fade, remembers the silence where the wind should have been — the stillness before the world itself collapsed.
And yet, she wakes. Not as herself. Not in her own body.
Instead, she wears another woman’s face, speaks with her voice, walks with her gait. Human. Noble. Familiar, yet hollow. A stranger’s life stretched over her bones. She does not know if this is mercy or mockery. She only knows it is a reprieve, and she does not intend to waste it.
The world will end. Again. She has seen the shape of it, felt the pull of inevitability. She knows who will end it, and why. She knows the time, the place, the weakness.
But there is no time for grief. Not for what she lost, not for the people who no longer know her name, nor for the man she loved who will destroy everything.
She will stop Solas. She must.
This time, she does not intend to lose — no matter the cost.

Summary
After waking up in a collapsed tunnel and finding himself entirely, perfectly, healed, The Iron Bull knows it's proof of the impossible. Solas has always been annoyingly difficult to catch off guard, never flashy with his magic, precise and devastating yes but never drawing attention.
The Iron Bull finally has a chance to pin that down.
Or, a collapsing tunnel in Emprise du Lion causes them both to take a risk, and neither of them are sure if it pays off.
