The old man doesn't know if he believes the story the demon tells, and warns him to stay away from his family while they work. Bill has decided for himself he doesn't want to get close to Dipper again anyway. Experiencing the heartbreak once was more than enough. Unfortunately Dipper seems to expect that something big is going on and tries his very best to make sure he finds out what. To great annoyence of the demon hellbent on leaving him out of it.
