Her chin brushed his shoulder and she heard his soft intake of breath and sensed him turn toward her ever so slightly, his eyes sweeping over her face greedily. She ignored it, even as part of her preened in the back of her mind. It was subtle enough for anyone to miss, but Fuyumi knew him well enough to be able to interpret his every move. He liked her. Enough to be mesmerized when she picked at her chapped lips and stood a little closer or looked at her a little too long to be friendly. He complimented her often and she brushed them off knowing he’d never tell her such things if it weren’t for his stupid infatuation with her. And she cursed herself for paying so much attention to him she could tell all of these things without him telling her.

She looked at him again, peeking from behind her thick rectangular glasses. She was a little ways down the hall, seated on a bench and pretending to read a book while she cast covert looks at him. He let out a loud laugh with one of his friends, throwing his head back and closing his eyes. He grinned widely, turning his head at just the right moment and their gazes caught. Fuyumi froze. Shoot. His smile morphed into something more hesitant and she looked away, mortified.

He allowed his eyebrows to raise in surprise as he registered the girl standing behind him. Her white hair with the red feathery streaks was pulled behind her into a classy bun and she was wearing a rather nice dress and tights with a coat over her arm, making her look like she’d just come from a fancy dinner of sorts or perhaps a formal meeting rather than the elementary school he knew she worked at. Then again, he mused, a fancy dinner was entirely plausible considering her father. Her bangs were carefully swept off of her face and her rectangular glasses perched on the bridge of her nose. She was cute, he decided. Much cuter than he’d originally thought when he’d first met her. Her eyes met his and he watched the recognition dawn on her face.
Hawks is sent to relay rely information to one of the Commission's informants. He wasn't expecting them to send her.
