Picking up immediately after the events of And You Can’t Stay on Your Feet, Clark is still recovering from a near-fatal encounter with Kryptonite and the trauma of his kidnapping by Maxwell Lord and Lex Luthor. He’s dealing with lingering fears and trying to get his life back together while distancing himself from those he's scared to hurt. Meanwhile, he still has to work at the Daily Planet and figure out the crime wave in the Metropolis Dock District. Not to mention, should he be helping Bruce with his acquisition of the Justice Gang?

The thing about grief is it’s not just a plethora of emotions. It’s also largely about finding out how many parts of your life only happened because they were there. It can be disorienting. You don’t need to worry about the needs of someone who’s dead. There’s nothing you can do for them anymore
This fic does a great job of acknowledging that. Data doesn’t need to feel emotions to experience grief.
