Summary
Steve was a mage, not a fighter: he'd entered the tournament to face other mages. But when he had to face the Winter Soldier, he never thought he'd wind up being responsible for him, even if it was only for the time it took to get him off the Baron's lands. He hadn't dreamed it would lead to the Winter Soldier following him through half the kingdom.
Steve wasn't sure why it was happening, he wasn't sure what the man wanted, but for the moment he was willing to wait and see. He just hoped he wasn't making a terrible mistake.

Summary

The construction of military bases turned the quiet county into a hub of wartime activity. With the war came not only fear but also profound shortages. The Abbey’s farms, tasked with meeting the increased demands for food, found themselves struggling. The military presence brought business and complications, as soldiers needed supplies, accommodation, and support. The estate faced renewed financial pressures, echoing crises of the past. But the house stood, flag waving tall, with Anna and Andy running the household. Downton becomes a sanctuary for Tom, Sybbie, Lucy, their youngest child, Marigold, Edith, and Peter. With Bertie Pelham entangled in diplomatic duties across a fracturing Europe, it made sense for Edith to come home. Tom, however, had a harsher reality. Brampton Estate was taken over by soldiers and destroyed.

She looked at his eyes and her stomach turned over and over. (Severus Snape saved Harry’s life for his eyes. Let’s have Petunia save it despite them).
Let’s tell a story where Petunia Dursley found a baby boy on her doorstep and hated his eyes—she hated them. She took him in and fed him and changed him and got him his shots, and she hated his eyes up until the day she looked at the boy and saw her nephew, not her sister’s shadow. When Harry was two and Vernon Dursley bought Dudley a toy car and Harry a fast food meal with a toy with parts he could choke on Petunia packed her things and got a divorce.

Summary
It wasn’t that being Phil Coulson, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, ex-Army Ranger, asset wrangler, and Captain America fanboy, was a bad lot. Aside from the bullying in elementary and middle school before I got a little height on me and discovered I could run the football pretty well, I had a good childhood. Got along with my two sisters -- that incident with their Barbie dolls notwithstanding -- and, after they grew up and got married, could tolerate my brothers-in-law. Used an ROTC scholarship to pay for college, managed to not get shot up much during my tours of active duty, and landed a spot in the premiere top-secret alphabet agency right after I mustered out. I was damn good at my job, if I do say so myself. Took two guys out with a bag of flour one time and corralled Tony Stark into behaving … mostly. Met a Norse god, a gamma-irradiated scientist, and a Red Room operative. Even got to see Captain America thawed out and in his suit, alive and breathing.

She saw Rhodey the exact moment his expression changed from resignation to a confusion they’ve only just begun to experience over the past decade. Please. Help him please. He was breathing, barely, and in so much pain it made her heart hurt more than she thought possible. She heard a woman talk of taking him to Wakanda, while Bruce mentioned finding Dr. Cho, and Pepper put her foot down.
Stubborn bastard Tony Stark survives.

“Sorry, honey,” May says. Peter blinks a couple times and she comes into focus, her hair pulled back from her face. She’s trying not to look a certain way, but he can see it in her eyes anyway. She clears her throat, keeps talking. “But it’s…” She glances away, wets her lips. “You gotta get ready.”
He remembers what day it is, and his heart beats like a drum at someone’s execution. But he tries to put on a mask, make it all seem normal. It’s everything but, despite the fact that he’s been dealing with reaping day since he was born, between himself, Ben and May. That fear that one of them could be taken away. Sent to surefire slaughter. But now Ben is gone, taken despite never having his name drawn from a bowl, and May’s finally safe. Now Peter’s name is in there alone. The last Parker sitting on the chopping block. He doesn’t know how to be. He doesn’t know what normal is, when the Hunger Games are looming on the horizon.
