James let his head fall into his hands, rubbing at the temples as if trying to push Remus's words of of his head.
“Six months.” He muttered in disbelief letting the reality of it all sink in. “I was gone for six months. How did this happen? How did it all get so messed up in just six months!”
Glancing between his fingers he saw Remus grimace from the doorway. “If we are going to be accurate, we let it get all messed up in seventy two hours. It’s just… still a mess six months later.”

James survives on the night of Halloween 1981. Barely. He was badly injured and in a coma which the experts said would be permanent. Summary
September 1982
The war is over. Voldemort was defeated on October 31, 1981. Regulus Black discovered Voldemort’s horcruxes and informed the Order of the Phoenix, which destroyed them. When Voldemort arrived on Halloween to kill baby Harry, the Order was standing by, ready to kill him first.
Almost a year later, the Marauders and their friends are rebuilding their lives.
Everything is going well for Sirius Black.
