As the blood of the kaiju rains down on Hibino Kafka, he realises that Ichikawa was right. He can’t join the defence force like this; however, he still yearns to be by Mina’s side.
“Ichikawa.”
“Yes sir?”
Hibino turns his head to look at Ichikawa with a fire burning in his eyes, “I’m going to stand with you and everyone else in the defence force, but I’m going to do it my way. Can you help me?”
“Yes, sir,” Ichikawa says firmly.

It all started with another Kaiju attack, exactly 4 and a half weeks after the one that sent Kafka and Reno to the hospital. Several armed officers rounded the corner mere moments after Kafka dealt with the rogue Yoju, leading them to be face to face with one very bloody Ichikawa Reno and Kaiju No. 8. Determined to save both their lives and their chances at ever joining the Defense Force, Reno blurted out the first thing that came to mind—
"Please don't hurt him, he means no harm! In fact, he's actually really well trained!!”
. . .
"... What?"
Or, a story in which the Kaiju Distribution System chooses Reno. Nobody is particularly happy about this. Except maybe Hoshina.
