Summary
Everyone knows that when you touch someone who's going to be important to you for the first time, you'll leave a mark on them. It's not just romantic love; parents and children, siblings, close friends all share marks too. At least, they do in theory. Maddie's the only person who's ever touched Buck and left anything behind.
.
It’s funny, growing up knowing your parents don’t care about you. The kind of funny that would get Evan uninvited from sleepovers, which is why he always changes into his pajamas in the bathroom. The kind of funny that he’s not allowed to ask his parents about. The kind of funny that makes Maddie look at him so sadly sometimes, when she doesn’t realize he can see her out of the corners of his eyes.- Language:

Summary
“Hi, this is Firefighter Buckley with the 118. Isabel and Josephina got a clean bill of health, sir. You don’t have anything to worry about, I’ll be here with them if they have any questions for us,” Buck reassures, and, surprisingly, he’s met with absolute silence on the other end.
He waits a few seconds, then lowers the phone to check if the call dropped. It still says ‘Edmundo’ on the screen, and Buck catches a glance at the contact picture of said Edmundo on Isabel’s phone, and gapes for a moment. The guy’s real young, holding a newborn baby in his arms, baseball cap pulled down over most of his face but a dazzling smile, clear as day, peaks out.
“Right. Uh, thank you, Firefighter Buckley.” And wow, oh. It’s a nice voice too, velvet and rich sounding. A little gravelly, but in a very pleasant way. Buck likes it. But not in any way that means something. Objectively, it’s a nice sounding voice. Right.
***
Or, the five times Abuela and Pepa try to matchmake probationary firefighter Buck with freshly single dad Eddie moving to Los Angeles, and the one time they don't need to do anything at all.

Summary
Eddie’s a steady man who likes predictability. He buys the same beer all the time, the same shirts just in different colors, the same type of mulch for the garden every year.
But the thing is, Chris is starting high school in two weeks, and Bobby has been floating the idea of retirement around more and more. Chim and Maddie are expecting a second baby, and Pepa and Abuela have been talking of looking for a new home for Abuela soon.
And then there’s the promotion and the transfer, and it’s all just a bit much for Eddie to handle.
But he spins the silicone ring on his finger, smiling down at it while the heat of Buck’s thigh presses carefully into his own. At least that’s something that isn’t changing.
