Summary
Looking at an old map of Beleriand, you may feel like Maglor ruled the tiny strip of land between the Little and the Greater Gelion – that would be the one labelled as “Maglor’s gap”, stuck between Himring and Thargelion; but in those times the Exiles held the Siege, encircling the Thangorodrim, and Maglor ruled the eastern link of the choking chain, from Lothlann to the northernmost foothills of the Ered Luin. I meant to ride as far north as I could, to where the Ered Luin almost met the great, red mountain range that was Morgoth’s stony kingdom.
We are not there yet. We are still leaving Himring, riding down the stony path with goat herds flanking us.
Finrod visits the Gap of Maglor, discovers life at the frontiers of the Noldorin realms is painted in shade of grey, and that some secrets should remain secrets.MAJ 09/13: After receiving many kind comments, I have decided to add a second part to this fic!
Maj 09/27: The second arc is finished! The Quest for the Secret reaches Middle Earth, and we meet a new narrator!- Language:

Bookmarker's Notes
"In the space between the blades, that scratch like paper leaves dancing against each other, I heard the threat of fire."
Good prose (evocative, timeless) and better dialogue (character's lines are not stepped on; elves do not stutter or stammer or choke on their words, they speak as if they have been speaking for centuries, and with dignity and confidence). Melancholy, and no redemption twins or kidnap family, but at least the ending is hopeful -

Summary
Over five and half years after the start of the alien invasion, Earth is finally at peace, a newly-admitted member of the Law of Five. Feeling rather listless, Beth Potter joins the Law's military, grasping for purpose in their mission of liberating all peoples in bondage — besides, fighting was the only thing she was ever good at anyway.
Meanwhile, while working to clean up pockets of unreformed Yuuzhan Vong throughout the galaxy, Jaina Solo receives a message from an old friend thought long dead. The investigation sets her on the road to Tenupe and a deadly confrontation with the mysterious Empire of the Hand, and a powerful Force-user found among their soldiers.

Summary
Beth thought she had enough problems to be getting on with, after Voldemort's resurrection only a couple months ago, and the Minister sticking his head in the sand like a stubborn idiot, and the Prophet making arses of themselves. She had a nasty feeling this year was going to be miserable, she'd never felt so ambivalent about going back to Hogwarts. Except she never even makes it that far — she hadn't quite reached King's Cross when fireballs start falling from the sky. On top of everything else going on, now Earth is being attacked by literal space aliens, because apparently the infamous Potter luck has escalated to screwing over the whole damn planet.
At least she was right about the "this year is going to be miserable" part.

Summary
There's a balance to tragedy and eucatastrophe. Even Marred, Arda was made with goodwill and divine grace - there is love and mercy and forgiveness even for those that would not accept it, even for those who don't yet realize they need it.
So sometimes you get the second chance you didn't ask for.

Summary
In the first year of the Fourth Age, after three thousand one hundred and thirty-eight unhappy, furious, grieving years of being reborn into an Aman that has been trying very hard to pretend that everything is absolutely fine ever since Morgoth was banished from the world, Fingon the Valiant walked through the Door of Night into the Void to seek the fëa of Maedhros, Kinslayer, Self-Slain, who hated himself so much upon the moment of his death that he chose Everlasting Darkness voluntarily.
He left behind an extended family who is shocked and appalled to learn of this decision - and that Námo the Doomsman was the one holding the Door open for him.
Or: The last time one of the House of Finwë fell at the hands of a Vala in Aman, the Silmarillion happened.
