As noon came and went, the trees had changed to a pine forest, thick and gloomy even before the cloud cover had settled in between the peaks and plateaus like the lid of a pot. The rain that followed penetrated through the branches over the road and Usagi had been forced to don his hat and tie the rain cape he’d been using to hide his Mifune mon tight. The wind howled and moaned like the spirits trapped in Enma’s hell, rustling the trees until they whispered fit to drive him mad.
