    Elrond Peredhel was not dead. This, he decided blearily, meant several things.

    First, and most damning, he still had the cursed Rings.

    Second, he was, by every fair measure, likely a traitor. Gil-galad would say it. Galadriel would not need to say it.

    Third, he had no easy way back. Lindon’s coast was leagues behind him now, so he could not slip unnoticed to Círdan’s doorstep to beg for council.

    Finally, and this perhaps weighed heaviest of all, if Elrond Peredhel was not a ghost, then Maglor Fëanorian likely wasn’t one either.

    My own take on the infamous waterfall scene, exploring Elrond's motivations. The first chapter is canon compliant (and explains how Elrond managed to take the rings in the first place), where as the second chapter leaves canon behind in favor of whumpy, hurt/comforty goodness and Galadriel and Elrond actually TALKING!

    "Every time Elrond tried to speak to Galadriel about their plans going forward or about the Man who had come with her, the fraudulent king, she brushed him off. The rings ever drew her gaze, cold and stoic, and for the few moments he could hold her attention, it was almost as if she looked through him instead of at him.

    His mother had looked at him much the same way."
