Summary
Gem only recently discovered who she really is, the princess of Eremita. With her coronation in only a week, she has to adapt to her new life quickly. As the threat of war creeps ever closer Gem is forced to step into her role as princess as the fate of the kingdom depends on it.
Pearl is the newly appointed handmaiden to the princess. She was resentful at first because the royal family were the ones keeping her and her brother enslaved, but soon she realized that not every royal is all that bad. Princess Gem is so nice to her even after finding out about her wings. When her brother is planning the assassination, of the Princess, she’s caught between her best friend and her family.

Kayo's gaze darted around, searching for any way out. That's when she saw it-- a fleeting glimpse of crimson wings, a butterfly fluttering against the drab concrete. Her rerun.
The world went white, a blinding flash that seared her retinas. Kayo squeezed her eyes shut, bracing for the impact of the ground. But it never came. Instead, she felt a gentle swaying, like a tree in a soft breeze.
Slowly, Kayo opened her eyes. The alley, the police, the blood-- all gone. In their place was a tranquil winter scene, snow-covered rooftops and bare trees dusted with powdery white. The air was crisp and cold, filling her lungs with each deep breath.

He couldn't do it again. He couldn't handle the silent pain, the only sound his own screams echoing off of the walls. He couldn't stand the blank masks of the Watchers, faces permanently obscured by the disks that they had sealed over their features. Couldn't stand the chill of the room against his bare skin, only chased away by his blood, boiling hot in comparison.
His heart was pounding now, faster and faster, tears leaking out of his eyes, wasting water he couldn't lose. He needed to calm down, breathe, stop panicking. He would only lose more blood.
Breathe in.
He's going to die. There's no way that his team will find him before he bleeds out.
Breathe out.
The Watchers would probably go after Grian next. Even if they raised him, they still wouldn't treat him with mercy. They would find another chosen one.
Breathe in.
His team might get Grian out in time.
Breathe out.
They won't.
He couldn't breathe in anymore.
