Loyalty bleeds inside of him, big and bright and important. He needs a collar, or a leash, anything that had Jannik’s name on it, to show that Carlos belonged to him, that they were intertwined with one another and no one, not even Germán, could stake their claim on Carlos, because Jannik had gotten there first, name wrapped tight around Carlos’ neck.

He tried to reconcile the opponent Frances described, the one who had everyone else running scared, with the boy he saw tonight, who seemed to smile as though he had joy in an endless supply. Jannik didn’t want to underestimate him, but he didn’t want to be scared either.

Summary
Alvaro huffs a laugh “long night with your boyfriend?” there is a vague ripple of teasing laughter, Jannik’s face heats up and he ducks his head. Something inside Carlos snaps.
“He’s not my boyfriend.” Carlos says abruptly. “We aren’t- We are not together.” His words come out sharper, it releases a tension he has been carrying since he sat down.
Carlos clears his throat, fixes his gaze at the table. He expected some teasing, for Alvaro to punch his shoulder saying they seem like they are together, or for Juanki to scoff and say that they were very much together when he found them this morning.
None of that happens, instead, a tension thickens, an audible crunch as someone swallows their toast. He dares a glance up at the table and he can immediately see why. Jannik has frozen, his knife and fork still perched half way into cutting his omelet. He is staring at Carlos, his mouth half open - he is staring at Carlos with wide eyes, shock written across his face.
(Or: Jannik and Carlos have very different ideas of what kind of relationship they are in, Carlos has to fix it.)

“What do you mean Jisung woke up early and did cardio? You mean Jisung Jisung, right? As in, Han Jisung? My Jisung?” he asks.
Hyunjin shakes his head as he laughs and joins Minho on the floor. “Yes, hyung, that Jisung. I don’t know another Jisung,” he says, sticking his legs out to touch his feet to Minho’s and make grabby hands at him. Hyunjin leans back, tugging his hyung forward gently until he groans. “We go like twice a week,” Hyunjin adds.
Minho doesn’t speak until he’s the one leaning back, pulling Hyunjin into a deep stretch. “But Jisung hates running, and he hates getting up early.”
Hyunjin scoffs, the sound strained as he leans forward. “Yeah, who doesn’t?” he says.
When he straightens up, Minho just blinks at him in that way of his once more, with his top lip pouted out. He stands up suddenly, and says, “No more Han Jisung talk, or Bang Chan will kill me.”
“What?” Hyunjin says, pushing himself to his feet. “What are you talking about?”
Hyunjin is oblivious, and their friends are all (politely) fed up with him. Jisung’s patience finally pays off.
