It was supposed to be a slow short patrol around town. It was supposed to be a normal clean up.
But.
Hand twitching from where it covers his remaining functioning eye, body hunched over from the stinging pain of gravel, Suo only has a split second to be pissed at the ruined good day before he’s being dragged under, choked by terror born from the time he lost his right eye.
It's a well known fact that Suo's unflappable in just about any situation. His calm leadership and ability to cooly adapt to the changing tides during the Noroshi war only further solidified this truth. But throw some dirt in his eye and stick him with one Kiryu Mistuki? Yeah, he never stood a chance.

Sakura blinks. It takes him a few seconds to compute what, exactly, this all means. But the second he does—
His face goes red, and he demands, “YOU BROUGHT ME ALL THE WAY HERE FOR A STRAY CAT?!”
suo and nirei stumble upon a stray cat during patrol, and they convince sakura to help them care for it. despite his best efforts, sakura finds himself completely enamored by the cat, and she turns out to be an especially comforting companion when he finds himself sick with a cold that just won't go away

Summary
Being a yokai host for Byakko, Sakura is used to the poor treatment he receives for his "monster". From being thrown out of homes, to being regarded as a stray cat while people throw things at him, the cycle was never ending. Yet it came to a stop when he stumbled across Makochi.
Now, Haruka discovered that the cruelest punishment of all his life was being forced to go on patrol with Sugishita, the barely verbal and easily irritable yokai host of the dragon, that hated him.

Summary
Sakura has never been one to care for others, or at least that’s what he thinks of himself.
But as he spends more and more time around Nirei and Suo, he finds it so hard to keep up the uncaring facade that he had built up over the years. Especially when the other two seem to care about him in a way that he has never had anyone care about him before.
However, even if Sakura wanted to admit he cared about them, he wasn’t sure how.
Actions do speak louder than words though, particularly to a guy like Sakura, so maybe it’s best he finds another way to express what he feels without saying anything.
Or
Words are hard, so instead the Furin Trio find a way to say ‘I love you.’ without actually saying it.

Sakura doesn’t remember where he had learnt this saying, maybe it was something Nirei had told him when the boy was flipping through one of the books that he liked to read. Or maybe he heard it when Suo was making one of his weird anecdotes as they were walking home from school one day?
But it doesn’t really matter where he heard it, it was stupid anyway. How on earth could you love someone without knowing who they were?
Better yet, how could someone know Sakura, know him with his flaws and still love him?
It was an impossibility.
But now as a third year student, with graduation looming closer, Sakura comes to realise that his two vice captains know him very well. Perhaps too well even.

What scares Haruka the most though, it’s the people closest to him, his vice captains’ reaction. Suo and Nirei look at him a certain way sometimes, like they know.
They poke and prod at him, make him lose his cool and his balance until he feels like an open wound. And it should be a bad thing, and there’s definitely a meanness to it, a bit of selfishness too.
It should be a bad thing, but they are so kind about it.
