Giyuu opened his eyes startled. He never talks about his mother.
He looked over at Sanemi to see him looking completely relaxed on the grass with his hands behind his head. Instead of looking at the sky, as Giyuu thought he would, Sanemi looked directly at Giyuu, with a softness in his eyes he knew he didn’t deserve. Giyuu was something dark and ugly. Just as dark as the bottom of the ocean. Samemi was kind and free just as a soft breeze, even if he always gets mistaken for a wild storm.
Giyuu tried pushing the negative thoughts out of his head and focused on speaking instead. “What did she tell you?” The tone in which the words were said held only love and adoration. Sanemi brows furrowed and his gaze held a warning. He had seen right through him. Giyuu ignored it and continued to wait for Sanemi’s reply.
Sanemi signed and turned his head towards the sky. It was filled with shining stars. One day he hoped that the one next to him could shine just as brightly.
“She used to say: The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.”

Xiao was not the sun in his siblings eyes anymore. He was a shadow, the shadow you barely notice. The shadow you only notice when the sun is shining brightly, wanting to warm everyone. But that sun will never shine again.

Some would say that's a lot but others who have already lived almost 500 years would say something different. They would say that there was not enough time. Not enough time to be together, not enough time to live together and not enough time to die together.

Wanderer laughs, but it rattles something metallic in the back of his throat and snaps the last shred of composure inside of him. “Nice try, but I’m not—cherished like Niwa was. You miscalculated.”
“No,” says Dottore, “I don’t believe I have.”

Summary

The wind picked up, blowing the pages of his sketchbook array. Till let the papers scatter and flip, as if the wind itself had something it needed to find. Until the air abruptly stilled, brushing over one last page before settling, where it landed on a drawing of Mizi–the last image of her engrained behind his eyelids. The footage they replayed every year on the anniversary of the tragedy. Mizi faced away from the camera, back turned towards the auditorium engulfed in the flames she caused; her emotions–hatred, sadness… love–set ablaze.
Till had to do something, for the sake of his family.

Till’s chest heaved, and he pulled off his gloves so that his shaking hands could cradle the face, thumbing underneath tired eyes.

Black Water Sinking Ships is there and while he can help fill in some of the blanks, the reality of their situation is grim and there doesn't seem to be a way back home.
