Solveig Malkyn is a character from A Spellcaster With Great Potential, and this tale serves as a side story within the Shadows of Destiny series. The character is inspired by Minerva McGonagall from Harry Potter. The story explores her final years and the quiet role she continues to play in the world, long after the great events have passed.
This story is written in the hope that the world may become a slightly kinder place for animals — something that requires deliberate actions, attention, and choice. The suffering of others rarely comes at a convenient time, but that does not make it any less real, or any less important.

Summary
Inspired by the HP universe, this story both follows and diverges from canon. Names and worldbuilding have been reimagined, while the story remains grounded in the feel and magic of HP. The plot draws inspiration from books 1- 3, blending recognizable events with original developments in a retelling with aged-up characters.
I hope this story becomes a quiet place to return to — enjoyed with a cup of coffee/ tea and a warm blanket — and that it might spark a little of the magic we all felt when we first discovered Harry Potter.

He was saved from further ponderings of his gray soul (the light was slowly taking over the black and leaving everything a bit…charcoal ashy?) by a buzzing at the door. Then the nothingness of the cell became profoundly less nothing as the unblastable-unbreakable door to the solitary confinement cell was blasted and broken open. He saw her braid first. It was longer than it had ever been. It flew like a small banner before her lithe, lean form came into view.
