    Summary

After walking along the roads of shops for a few minutes, Wylan can can smell coffee. Plenty of coffee, too; it was far from a weak smell. He immediately set out in search for the source of this scent, because why on earth are people drinking no small amount of caffeine at this time— it may be an area full of college kids, but, last Wylan checked, nobody drank a whole tanker full of coffee at twelve in the morning. As he walked further down the streets in his search, he saw it; a cafe, clearly open from the lights on and a couple of baristas in uniforms inside. It definitely looked cozy, and it was quiet, which is to be expected at this time at night (–or is it technically morning? Does it even matter?)

Wylan has to now decide whether or not to satiate his curiousity, or whether to do the much more sensible thing and listen to his anxiety telling him that he should turn around and walk right back to his flat

    Summary

Wylan keeps waiting for it all to go wrong.

Ever since that first night, after they beat Pekka Rollins, ever since the night after that, when it wasn’t over. Every morning since, when it still wasn’t.

Happiness isn’t reliable. Peace is not permanent. People do not stay. This is what Wylan knows; it’s the only proven hypothesis he has any reason to trust. And every day, he wonders how long he has left before everything good that’s happened over the last month is inevitably whisked away.

Or: the scenic route to the Van Eck reveal. Wylan Van Eck, in the months following the Crow’s return to Ketterdam. Struggling with his past, relearning love in its many forms, and worrying an awful lot about how to keep it.

    Summary

“If you get out there while you’re drugged there’s no telling what you’ll do,” Wylan said, pushing past Kaz to get back to his work station. “I’d think you'd want to avoid pulling the Dregs into this gang war.” He yanked a cabinet open and rummaged around for a pipette. Opened the vial. Drew out a drop. In his head he ran through the motions of the synthesis: he’d gotten close, before, with the blood sample. All he had to do now was see it through to the finish.

“I know that.” Kaz’s voice was nearly a snarl, but then again it always sounded like that. There was still time. “I mean, why didn’t you lock it from the outside?

“Like that would stop you," Wylan scoffed. "You need an antidote. You said the others were dead within the hour.”

“Only after killing everyone in their vicinity, Merchling, did you forget that part?”
