How could he even ask to be loved when all he ever did was push others away? He didn’t deserve that. And something in his mind screamed that he didn’t want that, that he wasn’t worthy of Soap’s adoration. That was why he hadn’t said anything back then, leaving Soap alone in his room, and escaping from him like a coward he was. Now he knew that it was a mistake, that he should have said something and cleared the situation between them.

"Johnny?" He breaths out the name on a ragged breath, broken and barely audible. There's no answer. No movement. His heart beats harder against his ribs and he wonders if it might thud right out of his chest. Ghost rolls Soap over and immediately spots the red beginning to color his lips, blood beginning to run down his jaw. Ghost calls his name again and pulls him into his lap, his eyes scan for an entry or exit wound but he comes up with nothing.
"Johnny, please," he begs.

Eyes fly open and his hands are working to pull off the mask that isn't there, it feels as if something is suffocating him. Ghost sits up in his bed and struggles to pull air into his lungs for far too long, hyperventilating alone and in the dark room where his eyes have yet to adjust. Out of instinct, his other hand feels around on the opposite side of the bed, searching for Johnny, searching for his peace and the breath he can finally take. Soap isn't there, though,

"What about Nancy?" Dustin asks softly against his lips, and Steve knows he's not asking out of jealousy or resentment, but out of curiosity and a good dose of logic.
It's a logical question, considering how hard Steve was trying to get closer to Nancy, to win back the heart of someone who was never meant to be his... and whom Steve doesn't want to be his, because the person he wants is right in front of him, waiting for something Steve should have given him long ago.
He exhales softly with a small, sly smile, feeling a tenderness that almost makes his chest ache. He breathes against Dustin's lips, barely touching them, not yet kissing them, and as if his voice were touching something sacred, he murmurs:
"Turns out she was just my Tammy."
