The pain was sudden. Searing heat. Ripping through skin. He sucked in a breath, surprise unable to dull the pain. The knife was stuck in his shoulder, the blade lost in skin. Dimly he was aware he should be glad that it wasn't any lower. But now wasn't the time for relief - not when the guy who'd managed to stab him in the first place was still right in front of him. Grinning like the cat who got the cream.
