Kevin Price had meant to have a completely normal yet wildly successful mission, go to BYU, find a girl, marry her, be a Doctor and live in Utah for the rest of his life.
Instead, he had a completely abnormal mission, went to Harvard, didn’t find a girl because he had a boy, married that boy, was a Doctor, lived in New York and planned to stay there for the rest of his life.
All that was missing was a proper family; one that wasn't the cardboard mother and emotionless father he had instead.

Elder Price had never been a real person.
He had never been anything more than a character that Kevin Price wore the costume of everyday just because it was his safest option. But safe had become very boring, very quickly. And Uganda had proved that to him. Of course, Uganda had not always been completely safe. Often feeling like the exact opposite, in fact, but it had shown him that there was more to life than being Elder Price. Life could be experienced in a much better way when he wasn’t wearing a perfectly crisp shirt and shoes that were, quite frankly, uncomfortable.
(Or, Kevin and Arnold move to San Diego without knowing that Connor has done the exact same thing)

In this AU, they grew up in a progressive Church so there's no elements of religious trauma. They all grew up together as childhood friends and their families are a close community.
