Summary
Sonic and Tails are more than just best friends. They are brothers, and through every hardship that's been thrown at them, they've gotten through it together. But when Infinite's attack leads to Sonic's imprisonment and Tails believing him dead, holding onto hope becomes impossible. Infinite is planning more than just torture for Sonic. He wants to tear apart his mind until he can't tell illusion from reality, or remember if the young fox is his dearest friend or an enemy trying to kill him.
Tails, meanwhile, refuses to accept that Sonic is dead, and will do anything to get him back. But even if he succeeds, nothing will ever be the same. The war in the outside world continues to destroy everything that the gang holds dear, but when the damage is deep within, how can it ever be rebuilt?

The scarred man arrives on the final day of sentencing. He was not invited—it was Alphonse Elric who sent him a letter telling him about the trials. The boy hadn't been able to hide his grief, but he said that he deserved to know, and that he hoped it would give him some closure.
It took weeks and several long talks with his master, to understand why it hadn't.
(Or: the heroes of Ishval are put on trial. Scar has mixed feelings about the whole affair.)
