“I… yes, shixiong,” Liu Qingge rasped as they stared at each other from across the abyss. “I understand.”
But he didn't. Not at all.
Long after they earned their happily ever after, Shen Jiu and Liu Qingge decide to enter seclusion in the Lingxi Caves and break through into the next stage of cultivation together. But when Liu Qingge prematurely ascends and the heavens send him back to avoid his fury, he ends up in a version of his world that's all too familiar and yet painfully alien.
The other Liu Qingge, having taken his place back home, feels exactly the same way.
