Summary
Emily’s heart stops when she sees the man in the window. Everything she’s ever been taught all crashes into her head at once. Every warning from the guards, every lesson from Corvo, every backup plan she’s ever made all rush past her, too fast to latch on to, as her heart pounds in her chest. Above it all, she remembers the most important thing Corvo taught her: Stay calm. Assess the situation.
She starts to chalk it all up to a bad dream and overactive imagination, trying to soothe herself, until his voice crackles to life—
“You’re very typical, for a Princess.”
And now she’s sat up, blanket falling away, face screwing up with offense in anger.

Summary

He was a man who has lived two lives. The first one he could barely remember - all that he had been was lost as the blood pooled down the altar. The second one had not been his own - the hated epithet of "The Outsider" tarred him with qualities he did not possess, shackled to duties he could not turn away from.
When he was given a third life, he was not quite sure what to make of himself anymore.
(This can be read as a stand-alone. The possibility of romance is discussed, however it doesn't actually appear in the story).
