Summary
Roman is mistreated all his life, so when someone shows him true kindness and love he has no idea how to handle it. Being a poor orphan boy labeled with 'issues' has put Roman through hell and back with his last several foster homes. Luckily his world begins to change when a nice family adopts him and he runs into the soulmates he so desperately wanted to avoid.

The room falls silent. Sunlight rifles its fingers through the stillness.
Patton laughs, high and loud. "What're you talking about? Of course there is!"

The Imagination is a tempestuous thing. Every once in a while, it requires focusing, just as any great and terrible power does. The twins do this with one great Story, one that takes all of the Imagination, including themselves. Every few months, no exceptions. That is, until the others overhear them planning for it and take it upon themselves to offer their opinions, especially on who exactly is responsible for what. Creativity is Creativity, after all. There is no good, there is no bad. The others scoff: of course there is! How could it be any other way?
So, the twins make them an offer: join the Story. See for themselves. It's not as simple as they might think.

(I'm binge-watching Brooklyn 99 and now I can’t get “Detective Brad dates a cop’s worst nuisance: a ninja” out of my head. Also, I haven't seen Crystalized or Dragons Rising so my information may be inconsistent.)Lloyd Garmadon was one of the most famous people in Ninjago.
Brad Tudabone was a charming but clever guy.
Brad scored his dream job as a detective, but even though cops have worked with the Ninja in the past, many of them aren't too fond of the colored celebrities. It's a well-known fact in the police world: the ninja meant bad news.

Panic clawed at him. If they captured Keith too like he thought, and they found out Keith was the real half-Galran. They could hurt him, kill him… no. He couldn’t risk it. He couldn’t let them know they had the wrong Paladin.

If you asked Roman what he thought would happen after he finally, finally reconnected with his brother after their parents did their level best to make sure the 'good son' and the 'bad son' never spoke again, the last thing he would've said is 'I get adopted by his new friends' family.'
And yet, that's a remarkably accurate description for why he currently finds himself in the middle seat, driving towards an abandoned ghost town, rumored to be the most haunted place within a five-hour drive.
