Across the marbled counter, a glass of ice water sat, half drunk and gathering condensation.
Next to it, a bright orange pill bottle, the cap popped off.
And on the black tiled floor, partially hidden behind the island, Shane lay crumpled and motionless.

Summary
This…isn’t exactly how Ed had pictured this moment finally unfolding.
It should have been something sweet and tender, lost in each other’s eyes or some romantic crap like that. In the time he’s known Stede, he’s witnessed the man on countless occasions relishing just about anything decadent and rich. So excuse Ed if he’d maybe imagined Stede was going to treat him like a bit of fancy marmalade. Stede would slowly savor him in the calm of the night, his hands and lips those of someone who knows Ed, truly down to the depths of his tarnished soul. Hold him like silver, precious and fine.
But here, in the cabin they’ve hastily redecorated, rich with their history and heartbreak, he thinks - maybe it was always going to be like this; rushed, rough and wounded.

Summary
The morning is here. Shane is here. And for the first time, as the day begins to bloom around them, Ilya allows himself to believe that what happened in the dark between them did not disappear with it.
Ilya lifts his head slowly from Shane’s chest, careful not to disturb him. Shane makes a small sound in his sleep, something soft and unguarded, and Ilya freezes for half a second, breath caught in his throat. But Shane settles again, his breathing evening out, and Ilya lets himself move.
Now that he knows it’s real, now that the panic has quieted and the words from last night have survived the light of morning, there is one last thing he needs to do. And he needs to do it alone.
OR
After the tender confession of love the night before, Ilya sneaks away for a few moments alone, seeking out the one person he needs to thank.
