Jane sped off before the other girl could respond. She glanced back, and saw Irina raise an eyebrow in the distance, an amused expression on her face. Like how you looked at a child when they proclaimed they were flying to Jupiter. She ripped her eyes away.
Jane made sure she won gold that day, and that Irina was there when they draped the medal over her neck. She didn't dare to look, but felt the hairs in the back of her neck raise with the intensity of Irina's stare. She wasn't sure it was envy in those eyes.
