    “But it's been a thousand years. You can’t expect him to be the same man.”

    “Oh, I don’t expect him to be the same.” Caroline replied, thinking about all the stories she had heard over the last few months. Slater whispered in her ear all the horrific deeds Klaus had done, and how many trembled at his name. The viciousness to which he decimated his enemies and conquered everything he desired settled within her. Some of it was horrifying but Caroline saw it for what it was. Claiming and protecting what he loved. “I expect him to be mine.”
