“Sorry—um.” Shane swallowed. “I’m Shane.”
Something passed across Ilya’s face, quick and unreadable. Shane’s pulse spiked, thudding loud in his ears. Did he know? If Ilya recognized him—if something clicked—what would stop him from telling the coaches? What would stop him from telling everyone?

“Alright, the shirt is going to have to come off,” Shane says, sliding back. “I can cut it off you or you can take it off yourself.”
After a lengthy pause in which Shane is unprofessionally lost in those glittering eyes, the firefighter grabs the hem of his shirt and begins to lift. He stops almost instantly with his elbows crossed over his face and his chiseled abdomen right there for Shane to gawp at, holy shit.
The pained noise the man makes jars Shane back into motion. “Right, okay. My turn,” he mumbles, smoothing the fireman’s hands back onto his lap.
