Summary
He wants to hurt you, Spite had crowed in his ear. Just like everyone else does!
Lucanis would be inclined to believe him… if it weren’t for those few brief moments that had stuck in his mind. Gentle fingers rubbing salves onto his burns and bruises, so lightly that the pain never overtook the relief. The cloak being draped over him, shielding him from the night’s chill, its fabric thick and still infused with another body’s warmth. The most warmth Lucanis had had since he’d woken up in the Ossuary…Mierda, he must have spent far too much time in Venatori hands, if such small gestures were affecting him this much.
(Or: Lucanis and Rook don't start off on the right foot. Only, Rook might not despise Lucanis as much as he suspected, and the Crow might be taking a fancy to the surly Shadow Dragon, too…)
CHAPTER 13: A duel leads to a conversation, a promise — and an invitation.

Summary
If someone was asked to describe Rook with one word; reckless and impulsive would both come to mind.
Lucanis rushed toward him first, always first with Rook. Moving in front of him, shielding him from a knife aimed at his chest. It's because he leaves himself too open. Or, that's what Lucanis told himself.
But was that it?

Summary
!Finish the game first please! Set after Chapter 6, with references to major plot points. Trans Rook too, heads up.
As a Mourn Watcher, Rook is more than familiar with the chill of the dead, and the consequences of growing up in the Necropolis. But when that past festers to meet him on a job, he's quick to downplay it - much to Lucanis' annoyance.
Hurt/Comfort where Rook pushes himself too far, and flares up a chronic illness/fever he'd long supposed gone.
As dubbed by @Bethenhiemer, "Spite and Lucanis bonding while dragging their unconscious crush through the Necropolis."

Summary
It’s the right day, but the year is all wrong, and Dream suspects that there’s something else not quite right even before he finds himself standing in front of the shuttered remains of the White Horse Tavern. Still, he’s chilled in a way he’s not accustomed to feeling, reminiscent of the hopeless, free-falling frost that climbed up his spine and inside his gut the day he was meant to meet Hob when he was imprisoned. And that’s what it is, he realizes, this cold feeling. Hopelessness.
Should Dream seek him out, would Hob welcome him as a friend, or turn his shoulder as he would on an intruder? It’s what he would deserve, Dream muses as he’s preparing to turn heel from the tavern’s closed gates, even though as he’s resigning himself to shame he’s also gearing up to make this his next mission, his next purpose: to find Hob Gadling.
Alternatively: Dream and Hob find each other in 2021, and see no reason why they have to wait centuries to see each other again. And again.

Summary
“An Endless?” Hob asks, softly, because it feels like a question that needs to be soft.
“That’s what we are,” Death responds, trying again for a small smile. “Me and D—”
“Don’t,” Hob interrupts, far stronger than he meant to, and Death looks surprised for as long as it takes him to get out, “Don’t, please. I-I want to hear it from him.”
Sympathy colors Death’s gaze even as Hob feels his face burn. Six hundred years, Hob thinks—he’ll be damned if he finds out his Stranger’s name from anyone but the odd man himself.
—
It's 1989 and Hob Gadling thinks he's been stood up. Death herself is kind enough to inform him otherwise—and, well, now Hob's got to bloody do something about it, doesn't he?
