    '“Would you join me tonight Olly? I doubt you’ve had the chance to eat since this morning.” Qifrey raised an eyebrow at Olruggio, in one hand, a large plate with what seemed to be left overs and other snacks, and the other, a bottle carved out of honey tree wood, two metal cups stacked over the neck of the bottle. He smiled as Olruggio jumped back, startled out the witch out of his trance and back into the normal time flow, huffing as he somewhat laid back on the sofa.

    Olruggio shuffled to make space on the sofa for his fellow witch, he patted at the space to the right of him, “ ‘Course, not like I’d say no.”'

    Two witches, bound by fate, drink their sorrows away by the dying fire light, enshrouded by night. By the scant rays of dawn, mistakes and milestones are forged and rewritten.

    Dunk looked at the photo. He looked at the sharp grin, the arrogant posture.

    "What's the job?"

    "Driver. Bodyguard. Muscle. Get close to him. Become his favorite toy. And when he slips up—and he will slip up—you give us the evidence to take down the whole damn family." Arlan leaned back. "It’s deep cover, Dunk. No badge, no backup. Just you and the monster."

    Dunk looked at the photo one last time, then closed the file.

    "When do I start?"

    “The usual, Nanami-san?”

    Nanami tugs at his tie. “Just Nanami,” he mutters under his breath, “is fine.”

    Haibara’s head tilts to the side. “What’s that?” he asks.

    “The usual,” Nanami says louder, “please.”

    Haibara blinks. There’s something that dances in his eyes. “Coming right up, Nanami!”

    Nanami pulls his eyes away and tugs at his tie again. His gaze trails to the street outside, and when he blinks, he almost thinks he sees a flash of pink dart behind a nearby lamppost. When he squints outside, though, there’s nothing to be seen except a few meandering passerbys.

    “Strange,” he murmurs to himself. The familiar noise of shuffling paper against glass makes him glance back to the counter, where two baguettes in a paper bag are being slid over the glass surface.
