Stealing another gulp, he sneered against it's bite. The strength of which smoked his voice to a heady resonant.
"Back during your apprenticeship, when you disobeyed one of your superiors, or spoke back at them out of turn; in what manner did they see fit to punish you?"
A preemptive attack from which she was slow to recover.
"I... got a good tongue lashing." Her words were tight from a throat that fought against their release. "A common occurrence, I might add."

No, it was for the very fact that Emmrich ‘I-Choose-My-Words-Carefully’ Volkarin did nothing accidentally and left no room for coincidence when his actions were called into question.
An expanded imagining of the Act 3 romance scene with our gentleman necromancer: tooth-rottingly sweet, but cheek-reddeningly smutty too. Includes some freaky Fade-magic because you know Emmrich is into that sort of thing.

Summary
Mourn Watch Rook, homesick and a little lost, unexpectedly finds a kindred spirit in Professor Emmrich Volkarin. Emmrich, instantly charmed but hopelessly overthinking, convinces himself to keep his distance—even as his feelings quietly threaten to give him away. Meanwhile, the rest of the Veilguard looks on in mounting exasperation as the two obliviously tiptoe around their feelings, stubbornly refusing to acknowledge what’s painfully obvious to everyone else.
