Keith curls into his side. It’s quiet for a minute or two and then the low rumbling kicks up. It starts out almost inaudible before building to a quiet purr that Shiro can feel vibrating through him.
“Didn’t know you could purr,” he says quietly, loathe to disturb the moment.
“Me neither,” Keith admits. The purring stops when he talks but starts back up as soon as he’s done vocalizing. He presses a hand to his chest to feel it better. “Alien traits showing up this far into my life is fucking weird.”

Shiro opens his eyes when the hard fall he’d braced for doesn’t come to pass. Above him looms the rustle of wet leaves and dripping rain and a pale, handsome face.
“You—” Shiro stops short, transfixed by a pair of dark but distinctly human eyes, their purple irises bordered by a faintly yellowed sclera. His gaze darts higher, to the pointed, fur-tufted ears jutting up from a mane of black hair. “You’re… it’s you. You’re the one who’s been following me.”
“Keith,” the man offers, voice burning low.
Shiro softens, sagging against the body that grips him. “Keith.”
