Summary
When Tommy was four he was found for the first time and subsequently hidden by a still skittish Grian who'd just joined for Season 6 of Hermitcraft. He didn't stay hidden for long. Xisuma's first step in gaining Grian's trust was letting him keep Tommy. So Tommy stayed and he aged and he grew up under the watchful eyes of all of the Hermits. He was Grian's, but Hermits were family, so he was everyone else's responsibility too.
When Tommy was ten, Season 8 started, and his world began to shatter. He'd survived two server jumps before this. It shouldn't have been any different, but something went wrong. Tommy was lost. Unable to return to the place he considered his true home.
When Tommy is seventeen, he finally gets to go home. Like all things Tommy, trouble follows him. Unlike the fair weather family and friends he'd experienced in the past, the Hermits weren't so willing to give up on him just because a little bit of trouble. They just needed a little time to remind him of that.

If there's one thing you learned coming from a background like Tommy's it's that suicide isn't really a craving for death. It's the desire for release, for freedom, for escape. He knew that, logically he knew that, but it didn't quite matter when he stood at the top of that pillar staring down at Logstedshire's remains. Death wasn't usually the answer, but this situation felt so permanent in a way that made it feels like the only answer. So he stepped off. And he fell. Down, and down, and a lot farther down than his pillar was supposed to be.
Tommy was far from the first to have thought this way. Far from the first to accidentally glitch himself onto another server. He might have a little more fight in him though than most cases. When he lands in the ocean and not the sand, he finds himself surrounded not by the people he wants but perhaps the support system he needs. Whether he knows it or not.

Summary
Tommy had always hated hybrids.
Not for no reason of course. He wasn’t that much of a jerk.
It was just that he had never met one that wasn’t rude to him in one way or another. He hadn’t met one who wasn’t quick to hate him, disregard him, or just generally make him feel like crap.
They also seemed to be at the root of many of his traumatic experiences.
That was why Tommy wasn’t very pleased to be in this car right now. He wasn’t exactly thrilled to be headed to house number 14, one that Sam had told him was a family of hybrids.

Or, Tommy has been in foster care for most of his life and hates hybrids as a result of multiple bad houses. But when he arrives at his fourteenth house… he begins to heal and realizes that he might be one of the types of people he grew to hate.

A protector, a guardian, a sanctuary for those surrounding him, but ever and always a prince alone in an empty court. Aside from his mother who he only rarely gets to visit, he is the only member of his family. He didn't think he minded. Key word being think.

Summary
Another louder crash, and Tommy hardly sees one of the aisles collapse in on itself before he’s buried his face in Wilbur’s chest.
His heart is thumping like he’s running a marathon, and all but his legs are wrapped around Wilbur. Shaking and uncontrollably chirping, Tommy still doesn’t think he’s felt safer in his life than in Wilbur’s arms.
And Wilbur is hugging Tommy back, rubbing above his wings and whispering, “It’s fine, no one was hurt. It only fell, dear. I’ve got you.”
Tommy can’t totally understand the words, not when his mind is a jumble of fear and adrenaline. He’s all instincts now, but he knows that Wilbur is protecting him and Wilbur will keep him safe. Tommy can’t even fight his birdbrain when the name of his foster brother is replaced by the title, dad.

Or: Tommy accidentally imprints on his human foster brother, Wilbur, after a minor inconvenience. Now, he feels pressured to keep his instincts and feelings a secret… which should be easy enough, right?
