Summary
Michael Wheeler didn’t consider himself special. He wasn’t like Eleven, who was an honest to God superheroine who saved them countless times. He wasn’t on par with Dustin’s brain or Lucas’s athleticism. He was never in the same league as Will Byers.
Now, he didn’t think he’d ever be.
Or; a little introspection into Mike's character, and what happens after S5E4 when Mike, Joyce, and Will go back to the WSQK.

Summary
Today was March 22.
It was Will Byers’s birthday.Hopper and his mom had left earlier, saying they had things to take care of.
Lucas, Mike, Jane, and Max were out—apparently on a double date.
Jonathan was somewhere with Nancy.
Robin was with her new girlfriend.
Dustin said he and Steve had plans. But Will was sure—absolutely sure—that everyone was planning something for him.
Because his family had never forgotten. Not once.
Because his closest friends had never missed his birthday, not since they were kids.
Even Steve had never forgotten.Hours passed.
Will stayed on the couch, phone resting in his hand, waiting for a message.
Waiting for a call.
Waiting for the front door to burst open, for someone to yell surprise,
or for someone to text him to come outside.Nothing.
Still nothing.
Eventually, Will fell asleep.
His phone never rang.

Summary
"I just need you to know," Will says quietly, and he makes himself hold Mike's gaze, "that if something happens - if I hurt you, or anyone else - it's not because I wanted to. I would never want to hurt you, Mike. Never."
The words hang between them, loaded with more meaning than Will intended.
There's a pause where all Will can hear is their breathing echoing against the storage closet's walls. The hum is more distant now, buzzing in the back of Will's mind, but the uneven inhales coming from in front of him sound louder. The breath tickling his nose (because they really are that close) feels realer.
Mike's eyes are still darting across Will's face, and Will can feel him inhale sharply. "Will, why are you so convinced you're going to hurt someone? What did Vecna show you?"
Everything, Will thinks. He showed me everything. Showed me killing you over and over until I couldn't see anything else.
Somewhere between slaying interdimensional eldritch horrors, exploding an entire dimension, and risking their lives countless times, Mike and Will find each other.

Summary
"There's just one question. Which one of us is bait?"
Robin's question hangs heavy in the air.
The task is dangerous. It needs to be someone that's fast, someone that can outrun the mindflayer long enough to fully lure it into the canyon.
Mike blinks, his eyes trailing down, to the flares on his chest. Nancy had given them to him earlier, due to his complaint about her hoarding all the firepower.
A weapon that draws attention like no other, designed to pinpoint someone's location.
Designed to be followed.
'See how you're leading us here? You're guiding the party.'
The words are in the back of his mind, Will's voice clear in his skull.
He needs to be the one to do it. Mike, leading the party.
"I am." Mike says, sounding sure.OR
A byler-centric rewrite of the finale (everything past the coming out scene) where the author attempts to fix all the issues they had with it. Spoiler, there are a lot!
