Summary

“Mom,” Shane managed.
“Oh sweetie. I know, okay. Those fuckers, how dare they do this! Two fucking cups! Now all of a sudden they decide they want a reset and you’re going to fund it.”
Shane put his head between his knees and tried to breathe. God, Boston. They hated him there; it was so far away; he was fucking their captain.

Summary
The face off, like always, is between he and Shane.
"You look pissed," Shane chuckles. "Something happen?"
Yes, Ilya thinks. You will not eat an actual fucking meal with me and all you care about is this stupid sport and I think I might die before we retire.
Ilya swallows, "Just waiting to beat your ass."
"Screw you."
"You wish."
Ilya wins the face off. He's never been the kind of player that Shane is— analyzing everyone else, memorizing names and faces. Ilya focuses on the puck and his own team more than anything else. That is perhaps the difference between Russian hockey and North American hockey. Ilya doesn't get to blame the other team, he has to always look inwards at his mistakes and because he is captain— his team's mistakes too. If someone is injured, Ilya has to know how to accommodate them. If someone's wife argued with them over the phone before the match, Ilya has to take that into account.
The success of the Ottawa Centaurs is on his shoulders.
