It had started after Frank died. Ian began to come to terms with abuse and neglect of his parents and never feeling heard . The first time it happened Mickey panicked thinking it was a manic phase he had missed .But his therapist began to chat with him and he realized Ian was softer than he had ever witnessed. His therapist had a term for it , age regression. Over the course of several months they discussed it both in private and couple sessions with Mickey. While this would not treat his bipolar , some inner child healing could be a good part of staying more level. Ian is in the terrible twos making up for always staying in the shadows and quiet.
