The storm passes and Smaug never comes.
Erebor never falls. Dale never burns. Dwarves travel west in search of wealth, not sanctuary, and the Company of Thorin Oakenshield never forms. The wizard never plots (well... not precisely never...) and a perfectly respectable hobbit never hosts an unexpected party. But an adventure will be had. For the sake of an orphan, propriety will be set aside, mountains will be climbed, forests will be traversed and lakes will be sailed. Summary
Dwarves have One Love in their lives and when they find them they fall into the Sanâzyungurs for several days. This means a lot of things to dwarves: unconditional love, a blessing from Mahal, a sense of becoming whole; but mostly what it means is an obscene amount of sex. Sadly, not all dwarves recognize their One right away. Sometimes that realization needs to be triggered by strife or jealousy or some unfortunate predicament.
Like say, getting attacked by goblins, then orcs, then almost falling off a cliff to your death from a burning tree. Yeah. That should do it.

He opened his mouth to reassure his uncle, to tell him that he’d be able to start running in just as second, just as soon as the world stopped spinning, but instead all he muttered was, “I’m tired.”
When Iroh brushed against the back of Zuko’s head the pain there abruptly muscled to the front of Zuko’s list of issues, and he gave a loud groan. Iroh pulled back quickly, but Zuko could see that his hand was now dripping with blood.
“Then you should rest, Prince Zuko,” Iroh said, his voice calm and controlled, which would’ve been very nice if the lines of concern on his face hadn’t been so obvious. Zuko watched blearily as Iroh began to look sharply around them, apparently assessing something. “A man needs his rest.”
The world started getting hazy again, but the lack of attempted movement was a slight improvement. A series of shouts pulled him back from the creeping numbness, and Zuko forced his eyelids open.
Iroh was waving his arms, signaling to someone. “We surrender!” Iroh bellowed. “I am with the Crown Prince of the Fire Nation, and he needs a doctor!”

“You think I’d get away with that in house?” Zuko bites down his frustration. Agni, he really can’t do anything nice for her. Yes, it’s back-ended by motive, but she doesn’t know that.
Then, to his utter shock, Katara laughs. Soft, restrained. So like all those times he’d say something that amused her on his ship. “You still haven’t learned to smile when you do that.”
He’s spent months living off the memory of her smile, turning away like it was the suns glare and he only deserved to be burned. Now he stares at it, lungs shriveling the longer he forgets to breath. Wasn't he supposed to be doing something? He can’t remember. Can’t remember his own name, let alone pay attention to a nagging voice that sounds a lot like Azula’s. Not with Katara’s laugh still ringing in his ears.
