Summary
Dean sold his soul to save Sam and before he goes to Hell, he wants to give him one last year. Problems arise though as the year goes on, and Dean inches closer to hell.
This story shows Dean's struggle with his Hell date getting closer, Sam getting brother time and not knowing about the tragedy that is about to unfold, and Bobby stands as a support systems for the deteriorating Dean and naive Sam.

Mike took a step back, reaching blindly for the basement door that should’ve been there. It wasn’t there anymore. He looked back to the lake, a clear image of two police men pulling something out of the water. Someone. His breathing sped up, each inhale sharp and panicked. He recognised the jacket. He saw it so often as a kid.
No..no..no..
He looked back and forth between the kids huddled behind the truck and the body being dragged onto the shore.
“Will?” The name cracked as it left his lips.

Summary
The lighthearted moment is gone as easily as it came. Something heavy settles in Will’s stomach; dread. He hears children’s laughter, but there’s no one around. The ground he’s standing on isn’t stable anymore and without meaning to he starts moving, walking absentmindedly. Everything’s spinning, it’ll make him throw up. Looking at the sky makes him feel like he’s in a merry-go-round. He can’t hear his friends; he doesn’t even know where they are or where he is.
He stumbles on his feet and holds onto a tree. He hears the distant sound of people calling for someone. His mind is rushing with images, flashes of faces he can’t quite place.
“Will!” There's a hand rubbing circles on his back; he turns around to see the worried expressions of people he can’t exactly recognize, but they seem familiar. “Are you alright?” The girl with dark curls in front of him asks.
He blinks.
Mike is in front of him.

“You saved me, Will” he whispered. Will looked up at him, their eyes meeting. His eyes…Mike figured he could drown in those eyes and still never get enough of them.
Will was so close to him. Their faces were only inches from each other, if he leaned forward any closer they would touch. And oh how he wanted to. It wouldn’t be hard. To bring Will’s lips to his. It would be so easy.
Mike was so lost in this idea, that he didn’t notice the vines creeping towards them. He didn’t notice it snaking around Will’s ankle. He didn’t see the way it moved up to his back, settling just near the center of the boy’s stomach.

When Will Byers is killed just moments after unlocking his powers, Mike's world is destroyed.
But when he finds out there's a chance Will might still be alive, he knows he has to do something about it.
He knows he has to save the only person he's ever truly loved
