Darlington pursed his lips. “I never said I felt bad.”
“You didn’t have to.” Alex rapped her fingers against the dashboard. “Are we going to go somewhere or just sit out here and sulk?”
“Implying that you’d sulk with me.”
“I could give your misery some company. It’s better than watching Tripp’s brain melt out of his ears.”
Darlington fished his keys out of his pocket and put them in the ignition. “For the record, I’m not sulking,” he said as the car came to life. “I didn’t want to waste my time entertaining inane questions.”
There was a time when Alex would have needled him over that. She felt the urge to do so now. That need was overcome by the glimmer in Darlington’s eyes, the silent request to change the subject. So she smirked, hoping the gesture looked less uncomfortable than his earlier smile had, and said, “Yeah. Better to waste your time doing something fun instead.”

Summary
Lute looks at a sinner, but all she can see is…
“Adam?”
“How the fuck do you know my name!?” the sinner demands, waving the broken pipe threateningly.
That is all Lute needs. She steps forward, not by choice, but out of a deep, all-consuming need.
She is met by a bark of, “Stay back, bitch!”
That is when Lute realizes what is wrong with this situation, apart from the obvious. Her body freezes in tandem with her heart, and slowly, she says, “Adam, it's me. You recognize me, right?”

An infuriated cry from the girl pulls Denji out of his own head and gives him the push he needs to do what he needs to. His eyes never leave the girl as he takes a step forward and asks, hoarse and breathless, "Is that...?"
The girl freezes. Then her eyes snap up to Denji, a pair of bright yellow and orange crosses that he knows better than he knows his own.
Denji's heart stops.
"Power...?" he whispers.

He straightened his head, grin stretching to the very edges of his screen, to find himself looking at a very confused Charlie Morningstar. That confusion lasted for about the time it took to press pause. Shock took center stage then, then anger, and finally, disgust made her straighten up and look down at her like the thing on the bottom of Alastor’s boot.
Because Al wasn’t around to enjoy it, Vox grinned.
“You,” the princess growled.
“Me,” Vox mocked. “Tell me, Princess, do you still think that I can be redeemed?”
