Summary
It’s been almost a month since Sharon betrayed them all and Bucky almost died as a consequence. Sam is struggling with the fallout from Sharon’s actions as well as the guilt from almost losing Bucky before they had a chance to be together. They’re finally together but the threat of Sharon is still looming in the background. With this and a few unexpected returns, the bonds of their new relationship as well as Sam’s status as Captain America will be tested.
It's a good thing they have a team that will always be there to have their backs.
Aka: The story where the team proves they are more than just a team. Also known as the four times Sam thought someone was going to give him the shovel talk over Bucky and the one time that Sam and Bucky gave a shovel talk to someone else.

“Theo.”
Theo froze on his journey back around the restaurant to where his truck was parked. The voice sounded like Tara's. The Tara that still haunted his nightmares. But he was awake. So that was impossible. This wasn't hell, and Tara wasn't here. His mind was playing tricks on him because he hadn't slept more than a few hours since Liam left for a school trip three days ago.
“Theo.”
His phone buzzed in his hand, and he almost dropped it in surprise. His breathing slowed, and tense muscles relaxed as he looked at the picture on his Caller ID. He answered the call on speaker and felt better at the familiar heartbeat on the other end.
“Liam?”
“Theo, what's wrong? You're panicking.”
“I,” Theo paused, looking around the dimly lit lot around him. There was nothing in sight. There were no other heartbeats than his own frantically paced pulse. “I heard… I think something is here with me. But I don’t see it… I don’t know… there’s something here.”
“Something like what?”
“Liam… something is here with me. I think it's Tara.”
__________The impossible has happened. It's up to Liam to get his chimera back and for them to deal with a familiar enemy once and for all.

Let the record that show while Sam Wilson was an inspiration and hero to many, he was also kind of a self destructive idiot who had a habit of doing really stupid things to protect his very battered heart.
The latest in stupid things he's done to avoid getting hurt was telling his best friend, partner, and the guy he's pretty sure he wants to spend the rest of his life with, one James Buchanan Barnes, that he in fact does not have more than friends feelings for him. You know, like a liar.
Thankfully he has the rest of the Avengers there to help him get out of his own way.

“I think something might be wrong with Uncle Bucky.”
Sam pushed back on the part of him that was giddy anytime his nephews thought of Bucky as their uncle. There were more important things to worry about right now.
“Well, you know he’s been through a lot before he came here and it’s….”
“Not that,” Cass cut him off, pulling away slightly to look his uncle in the eye. “Like I mean something is really wrong right now. We were playing by the docks and he got a phone call. I don’t know who it was but whoever it was scared him. He made a weird sound and then threw it in the river.”
“Threw what in the river?”
“His phone.”
“He threw his phone in the river?!”
“Yeah,” Cass nodded like he was fully aware of just how crazy that sounded. “Just tossed the whole thing in the river and then tried to keep playing like that was totally fine.”
Sam blinked. So that was… not normal.
Or the time that Sam, and Bucky, realized that there was more to Bucky's family than just the Wilsons.

He thought he knew true horror but it paled in comparison to seeing Theo fall in a hail of bullets before being kidnapped, tortured, and poisoned.
