For a while Stan and his niece sat silently, listening to the creaking of the old house settling around them. As he held the ice to his face, he could feel Mabel's eyes on him again. "Something on your mind, kiddo?" he asked her.
"Oh, umm..." She gave a shrug, looking thoughtful. "I was just wondering what I should call you," she said quietly. "Do you still want to be called Stan, or would you rather go by Stanley?"
