He looks down and sees his Scoops Ahoy outfit. He looks around and sees everyone looking at him.

Hawkins is supposed to work. Despite all its traumas, gates and monsters it was still his home. A home that he’d planned to stay in - with its school, and sunsets and view. He never dreamed of ending up anywhere else. His dreams had always been contained to Hawkins city limits. It never occurred to him that he could end up somewhere else. That he maybe would want to end up somewhere else.

"You initiated a code red because your lamp exploded? Dude!" Dustin complained.
"You don't get it, man!" Steve said before Dustin could go off on a rant about 'proper use' of the Walkies. He looked down at his lap, unable to meet the others' eyes. "Nothing was touching the lamp. It just exploded, alone. And I think that I did it. Because... I was pretty mad, and it exploded, like, in sync with my thoughts."
A long silence followed. Steve didn't like silence. Most of the time, it meant something big and awful was coming. The 'calm before the storm'. You know.

A few months after being injured in the Starcourt Mall "fire", Steve's living a pretty normal life: working with Robin, getting even closer to the Party, avoiding his parents any time he can, etc., etc. So, it comes as a big surprise to everyone that the yearly wave of Upside Down related problems mainly revolves around him. Will Steve understand just how big the mess he's in is before it's too late?
