Summary
It was an unremarkable Tuesday afternoon, and Harrowhark Nonagesimus was on her knees.
Her patella digging into the fibrous, disgusting carpet, she was forced to re-evaluate how exactly it was that she got here, and what mistakes were made therein (numerous, and all egregious).
‘Here’ in this case being on the ratty floor of Barnes and Noble, picking up copies of John Gaius’s autobiography.

The piece of Gideon Nav’s soul that knew how to love and the piece of Harrowhark Nonagesimus’s soul that knew how to be loved sat together, in the dark.

Summary
You come to America fourteen and afraid.
You know how to say a few things in English; yes and no and please and thank you. You know how to say Master, and you know how to say forgive me. The tutor had stressed these in particular, while you stared in envy at the clouds passing by the window. None of the words will help you in the long run, but it’s comforting to have them.

Summary
This is how it goes, you start getting more goals than the person who isn't quite your friend anymore and he is furious. You know that he is 1 and you are 2 but you didn't quite understand how important those numbers were until he shoved you into the locker so violently you felt sick.

Bookmarker's Notes
This is how it goes, you are nine years old and your mother is Dead. There is a difference between dead and Dead, the kind of difference that means she's gone for good: you cannot remember her and they do not try to make you. She becomes a ghost story, a myth. Every time you are thrown in front of a camera, a reporter with an ice-cold smile behind it asks about her legacy and her crash and her absence from your life. You say it's an honour to have been taken in by your godfather so warmly, that it was unfortunate the brake pads were so worn out, and everyday you miss her like a lung from your body. They dissect her death like she wasn't even real in the first place, and sometimes you start to wonder if maybe that's true. All you can think of is red blood and men in suits and a violent kind of keening in your chest
