“Dr. Walsh,” Samira called, adjusting the bag on her shoulder. “You’re still here?”
Emery’s head lifted. For a beat, surprise flickered across her features before she smoothed it away. “Paperwork,” she said simply. “Piles up whether I’m here or not.”
Samira smiled, sipping her coffee. “At least paperwork doesn’t bleed all over your shoes.”
The past several months had been rough for Dr. Samira Mohan, but now she was finding her footing again: taking on more shifts, steadying her routine, and wrestling with an unfamiliar pull toward Dr. Emery Walsh.
