Summary
A cup of coffee hits the table with a gentle thunk, snapping Eddie out of his thoughts.
"Ravi's right," Buck admits softly, sitting down across from him with his own cup of coffee. "I'm usually the one bringing in strays." He tilts his head to the side, leaning forward, like he would if Eddie were a scared little kid they'd found on a call. "You doing okay?"
Eddie starts to reach forward for the cup of coffee but pulls back, running his hands through his hair instead. "Yeah, Buck," he starts, like a liar, "I'm fine."

Summary
"By nine," Buck sighs, starting to fidget. "I know."
"So you'll start to soak the—"
Buck's beer bottle hits the table with a sharp clank.
"God! Yes! I'll soak the damn cake. Between chauffeuring your son and baking for my niece and listening to my brother-in-law gripe about all of his paperwork, which he only has because the guy who used to do it died, Christ," Buck's voice is sharp, dismissive—
And catches Eddie completely by surprise.

"Sometimes I wish I could watch you do that," Eddie sighs into Buck's chest, reaching out to catch some skin with his teeth.
"Watch me do what?" Buck teases back.
"Leave these marks on my body," he admits. "I know I can see it happening, at least, the ones on the front of my body, but like—fuck, I don't know. I wish…"
"You wish you could watch," Buck finishes.

"You ready, Oliver?"
The PA's voice is clear in front of Oliver's face and he nods kindly, trying not to move too far, to work up any kind of a sweat. To step off his mark. He juts his head up in the back half of a nod, smiling amiably, that tilt to his mouth that anyone on set knows by now means sure thing, just tell me when to start.

Summary
Maddie's spent the last four days decorating her house. It would have been one day—maybe two, tops—but between Jee-Yun's creative direction, Chimney's earnest efforts at untangling lights, and Robbie's singularly strong baby-fisted grip yanking down an entire string of garland, it's taken a while.
But her friends are starting to arrive and everything looks warm and festive, if not a little less put together than she had hoped. It’s okay though – this is her family, this is her life. Singularly wonderful.

Summary
"Morning, Cap!" Buck calls as he bounds up the last of the stairs, grabbing the banister and swinging around to land gracefully in step as he moves to the table.
"Very Fred Astaire of you," Bobby notes, moving pans around the hot stove.
"Actually, Cap," Chimney interrupts from the dining table in the loft, not-so-gracefully bringing a mug of coffee from his lips, "it's very Gene Kelly of him."

Summary
Eddie steps through the door of his house with a smile on his face. His second date with Jack had gone well, even got a little kiss on the cheek as they separated outside the restaurant, and there were plans for a third date sitting in the texts on his phone.
The house is mostly dark, just as he left it, save for what's probably the stove light he forgot in the kitchen. His shoes hit the floor with a clonk and a soft laugh escapes his mouth. He'd forgotten how good it could feel to date. Not that his dates had been great. Well, they had, but looking back at it, they could have gone more great. If they were men. And not women. But.
He digresses.
or: Eddie has a date. Buck doesn't take it well.

""So, his mom's in town?"
Eddie's got his phone leaned against the bread box in his kitchen, cutting bell peppers while listening to Buck talk about his calls.
Turns out they ran into Bobby's mom.
"Yeah," Buck says, his voice tinny through the speakerphone. He's cutting something too. "Poor guy. You know how much I love it when I'm trying to do my job and my mom shows up."
Eddie shudders and he needs to readjust his grip on the knife. "Ugh, mine neither.""

Summary
"Eddie knows he's staring, okay? Embarrassingly still, mouth slightly ajar, blushing furiously, but he can't help it. He's just a man.
The Buckley-Han house is full of friends and laughter—the new host of 118 summer barbecues—and Eddie's supposed to be manning the grill. Usually, he's pretty good at it. Get the hot dogs hot all the way through. Take burgers off when they start to sweat clear. Don't serve raw chicken, don’t get anyone sick, all that good stuff."
or; Buck plays dress-up with Jee-Yun and Mara. Eddie is also present.

""Oh, Eddie," Beatrice smiles, but it’s more of a leer, with a hand wrapped far too firmly around his bicep. "It's so nice of you to make it to the meeting. We haven't seen you in ages!"
Eddie suppresses a shiver, one that he's sure Beatrice thinks is a good thing. It’s not, it never is.
"Yes, Beatrice," he placates, his eyes frantically flicking from one side of the crowded classroom to the other. Searching. "It's been some time.""

Summary
"For only being thirty seconds behind, Buck's already got his shower started when Eddie gets into the locker room. The noise is encompassing, bouncing around the tiles of the space, filling up the gaps in Eddie's mind. He's just about to strip his own shirt off to change when he sees a blur of skin out of the corner of his eye.
His head pops up and finds Buck, stark naked, moving over to the cubbies to grab his bucket of products.
"Can't forget to wash my hair," Buck comments, completely neutral, as he turns around and heads back to his steaming shower."

Summary
"Eddie's curled up on the couch in his comfiest, makes-everything-feel-better sweater with bowls of chips and salsa on the table when someone knocks on his door. It's not that he's pouting or anything, of course, but with Chris off in Texas and Buck on a date, it's not like he's got anything better to do. And he can’t just ignore the knock; it wouldn’t be the polite thing.
So, he pauses the old episode of Great British Baking Show he’s been watching, unburies himself from his couch blanket, and opens the door.
To Buck.
Who is supposed to be on a date."

""Cocoa?" Chris's eyes are bright behind his glasses, even though he's much taller than he was the last time they'd made it to see Santa at The Grove.
Eddie and Chris had joined the Buckley-Hans for Robbie’s first Christmas. They hung back while Buck, Maddie, and Chimney wrangled Jee-Yun and the baby (and the 800 shopping bags dangling from Buck’s arms) as they shuffled in line to visit the latest iteration of Mall Santa. Chris had declared himself too old for Santa photos years ago, and Eddie wasn’t going to shell out $30 for something he didn’t even want."

""Raggedy Andy again, Ravi?"
Ravi simply shrugs, his yarn wig flopping a little in front of his eyes.
"Hey," he says, voice laced with the handful of tequila shots he'd already knocked down, "it worked like a charm last year. And who am I to say no to all the nice people who want a piece of Raggedy Andy?"
Buck laughs, feeling deeply overdressed in his trench coat, considering the neon-soaked club in front of him is thumping with the sweat of about 300 mostly-naked people. "And you couldn't have used any of the imagination you used on me on yourself?""
or: Ravi picks Buck's Halloween costume

"With a final scrape of a too-short fingernail along the sidewalk, Buck successfully rescues the last of the pamphlets and trots back over to Ravi.
"Got 'em!" Buck hands the slightly messy pile to Ravi, a triumphant grin across his face.
"My beautifully appointed table thanks you, Buck."
But all Buck can do is smile.
It's his senior year of college, and he's on track to earn his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and graduate on time. He's the outgoing chapter president of the Rho Kappa chapter of Nu Alpha Sigma International Fraternity at the University of Texas at El Paso.
Everything is perfect."

Podfic for sounds like forever by saryasy
"No, he doesn't remember falling. He just remembers looking at his best friend one evening, cooping up a sleeping Christopher into his arms, murmuring ‘I got this’ to a half-asleep Eddie who'd made to carry his own son instead. He'd watched as Buck walked quiet but confident steps to Christopher's room, depositing him in bed with a whispered ‘goodnight’, and thought, in his sleepy haze, I love him.
The thought didn't startle him. It didn't jolt him awake or turn his world upside down - it wasn't the first time he'd thought it after all. It was, however, the first time he'd wondered whether it was really still platonic, if ever at all.
He found he didn't care anyway."
