Summary
D-16 frame shudders for a moment, denial and terror freezing him him in place, staring at the pit that leads towards the heart of Cybertron, where he couldn't feel Orion's spark anymore.
He couldn't feel Orion's spark.
He gets up slowly, turning towards the bot responsible for all of this, his optics once the purest gold now shone with the brightest red.
"Sentinel Prime, you killed my conjunx and for that you are going to pay with your life."

ORD-16's and Orion Pax's relationship is much more complex than only Best friends, and thus, things don't end the same way

Transformers One had so much MegOp! Potential that I need to rectify this situation.Author didn't like the scene where D-16 willingly drops Orion, so they decide to rewrite the movie just enough that it changes everything.

After saving Jazz from the collapsing tunnel, Orion Pax had promptly passed out. When he woke back up, though, something was different. Something about him had changed. Something had changed the way he looked at his best friend.
And it broke D-16's spark to think about it.
Optimus Prime woke up as Orion Pax again, and though he panicked at first, he realizes the opportunity at hand to fix where things went wrong. He wants to save D-16 from becoming Megatron and prevent the war that destroyed Cybertron. He would set things right this time, and he wouldn’t lose anyone else.
But why does he keep seeing those red optics on his best friend’s face?

Summary
Prime moves swiftly, with purpose—lifting, shifting, tossing debris aside as though it weighs nothing. His steps are careful but unrelenting, the ground shaking just slightly under each one. The tremor of the rubble vibrates through Starscream and it feels like knives being jabbed into his wires.
Of course Optimus Prime would show up. Of course he'd come for one of his own.
He can't even delegate this to someone else. Optimus Prime is too noble, too compassionate, too honorable to not put his own life on the line for his underlings.
Megatron would laugh at the very notion.

Starscream is left to rust after a failed decepticon mission. Optimus Prime does not let him die.
